Hopefully you followed all of the steps at the begining of our Checklist and have been blogging for at least a week to make sure your topic is something in which you are interested in and passionate about.

Step #4 - Monetizing Your Content

The #1 way to monetize your blog content is to sign up for Google Adsense.

But before you sign up there are a few steps you should take.

I know this sounds like a downer but never make a site specifically to make money without offering any quality content for human viewers.They're called MFA sites, as in Made For Adsense, and they can get you banned. Not just from the search engines but from the Google Adsense Progam itself.

Also take your time to get to know the blogging templates code. Spruce it up a little by adding some relevant links and pictures so it doesn't look like it was created yesterday and will be forgotten tomorrow.

While Google's Adsense progam is terrific you should not rely soley on it for your income. Others you should try are Kontera, Commision Junction and Amazon Associates. Just remember to read through their terms of service to make sure you don't violate any of their rules.

Once you have integrated the above methods of generating revenue into your blogging content it is time for step #5.

Step #5 - Generating Traffic

Without traffic to your blog you will have no revenue from click through ads or anything else. And since it is a very serious problem to click on any of your own ads ever, that is not even an option.

Besides relying on search engine traffic, which is why we worked so hard to narrow your subject matter in the begining, the first thing you'll have to do is sign up for as many blog directories as possible.

Then you'll have to do what I call the Three P's, Post, Ping, Promote.

Make sure your blog is set to ping automatically when a new post is added. But beyond that you should be using the PingOMatic services to make sure those pings are sent out to the various services immediately. Part of a blogs importance lies in the fact that people are looking for fresh information.

You also need to include tags at the bottom of your post to identify its subject matter more easily for the search engines.

New ideas for content can be found in other peoples blogs by searching Technorati, or by signing up for Google Alerts using keywords relevant to your blog.

Remember that while searching out related information for your blog to use the comment tool on other people's blogs. This not only gives you an all important back link usefull in increasing your page rank but lets other like minded people know you are out there and potentially increasing your traffic. Just keep the comments relevant and interesting as no one wants comment spam on their site.
