Earning extra income is as easy as figuring out your passions and blogging about your hobbying experience. And as hard as trying to figure out what to post everyday, how to get people to read it and how to optimize your monetization techniques for a maximum return on your traffic.
Before considering Google's Adsense progam I hope you have been blogging for a while to at least make sure it is something you can do and sustain. Too many blogs were created for the purpose of including Adsense and then abandoned, they're called splogs. Don't be one. And Never, Never click on any of your own ads for any reason. That being said Google limits the amount of ads you can put on any page. While their are eight different varieties of text ad your website can only include three on any page, with one link unit and two search boxes thrown in to fill up the rest of the space. For almost any page I have ever seen that is overkill. Once again Google's Adsense program isn't a get rich quick scheme. Interesting and unique content along with the constant marketing and promotion of your blog is what is going to drive traffic and eventually income from Adsense and other monetizing options. Pouring yourself into your subject matter requires a lot of time and effort on your part. Thats why we encourage you to choose a subject that interests you. Otherwise you blog will be abandoned long before it starts producing any real spare income. Once the traffic starts pouring in you are ready to maximize you Adsense revenue.
A terrific book on the subject that goes into better detail on creating the proper Traffic Tracking Reports is The Adsense Code By Joel Comm.
One of the major changes you can make to your Adsense code before implementation is to change the colors to match those of your blog. Background White? Adsense should be the same. Text color and link color should both be the same as the text on your website while the title of the Adsense ad should match that of your links. I made some color correction changes to my website Toast Guy and discussed how that affected my Adsense revenue on my Blog. It's a quick read and valuable insight into the potential small changes can make to your income potential. Rememebr the key is having the traffic to your blog. Only a small percentage of your traffic will convert to paying clicks on ads. The more traffic you can generate and the better you have optimized your blog's layout the greater your income. Simple examples such as properly naming your pages to include your keywords, including keywords in the text of your posts and increasing the amount of backlinks will all have an effect on the amount of traffic you see and you income potential. (Authors suggestion: Make sure you set your blog to use the title of your post as the title of the page, and use your keywords in your titles.) This is where being passionate about your chosen subject matter really pays off. Posting anything and everything that comes to your mind about your chosen area of expertise will be beneficial in the long run. Your posts can range from long carefully researched pieces on your subject matter to a quick blurb about something relevant you found on the web using the Blog This! tool from Blogger in your toolbar. Whats more is that you can use sites like ArticleYou.com or ArticleCity.com to help build relevant and interesting content during your start up or slow periods. Just remember to follow their rules and add a link back to them on your blog for using their services.
